Decorating Ideas We Used On My Boyfriend’s Apartment

My boyfriend used to have a very homely apartment with bare white walls. He had some posters, but they were beat up and didn’t do much to make it any more attractive. Is there anything more depressing than a mostly-empty apartment full of unattractive stuff?

He had a horrible pink comforter and an old tired loveseat in the living room. He had a kitchen island but no stools.

A couple of months into our relationship, we decided that the place needed redecorating. We didn’t have much of a budget though.

First, we decided to do something about those bare white walls. We used photos I’d taken of a local park. It was easy to have them blown up and then we put them in inexpensive picture frames we bought from WalMart.

The pictures look great, and also are meaningful for us. We went to that park on our first date, so it’s super-special. We got another nature picture at IKEA and got a matching frame, and that was around $30. That’s all it took to finish the walls.

We then moved on to the bedroom. Nasty pink comforter gone. We replaced it with a navy bed-in-a-bag set from WalMart. The bedroom looks so much better now!

We couldn’t replace the ratty loveseat on our budget, but didn’t want to have to look at it. Instead we just got a slipcover from Target. Add a couple of throw pillows for a bit of visual interest, and now it looks amazing!

Instead of worrying about picking up table and chairs, we then got three stools to go with the island. That was plenty for a dining area, and then we had that taken care of too.

His apartment looks so much better but that’s not the most important thing. The most important thing is that we did it together and had a lot of fun without spending much. And now it also is like the perfect place to come home to.

Common Practices When Taking A Taxi

If you are nervous about taking a taxi for the first time, these tips may help to improve your comfort level.

Remember that you are not the only person waiting for a taxi. Be aware of your surroundings, and if another person has been waiting for a taxi, do not run up and take it from them. Another one will arrive soon.

You may want to share a fare with another, even a stranger, to save money or get out of rain or snow faster. When sharing a fare, it is appropriate to split the cost.

If you and a friend are sharing a taxi to go to similar locations, the first person to arrive at their destination should pay half of the fare and tip, rather than leaving the last person to arrive with the full amount.

It is easiest for the first person to get out of the taxi to give their share in cash to the remaining passenger, and allow him or her to pay at the end of the trip. If you are the last person in the taxi, don’t feel obligated to turn away the money. This can create uncomfortable feelings of obligation for the person who rode free.

When men and women ride together, it can be confusing as to the proper protocol. Protocol generally calls for the man to ride in front, but this is not absolutely necessary, particularly if the women’s attire makes it difficult to get in the back seat. Women in skirts should be allowed to get in last, so that they will not have slide across the back seat.

Generally the man gives directions to the driver, but it is more important that the person who knows the route best do so.

Many people are unsure how much to tip a driver. If you were happy with the service, 15-20% is a standard tip. If the driver did not follow your directions, you can tip less or not at all.

Choosing The Right Mortgage That Fits Your Budget

Are you thinking about purchasing a new home or commercial property in the near future? But you are undecided as to what mortgage is the right one for you.

There are many varied mortgages available to suit everybody’s needs; it is possible that you could pay off your mortgage fairly quickly, maybe between 10 to 15 years, but that is assuming you have a good job that pays you well.

Unfortunately this is not the case for a lot of people; a carefully budgeted plan is what is needed.

Mortgages differ in many ways, some may require up front balloon payments or maybe even larger payments towards the end of the loan, or maybe they just change with the monthly interest rates.

Another option could be the variable rate mortgage; these are different from the fixed rate mortgage because they alter with the monthly interest rates, these are normally capped to a few percent so they should not alter too much at any one time.

These are only two types of mortgages, but there are many more available, especially if you are looking to buy a commercial property.

Some commercial property mortgages will allow you to make smaller payments for your first year of the loan, and then when you are established, they will allow you to increase your payments so that you can pay your loan off quicker.

It is always a good idea to research the different types of mortgages available, and then talk to a qualified broker about the best options to suit your needs.
